New Year's Day BBQ, 2019

Another blazing hot day. Mum and I went to Mass at St Mary's at 9am. Notable how many Indian familes and Phillipinos were in attendance. 50/50 with ye white Aussies.

I had already been up early, and wiped down the tables and chairs that we might dine on at lunchtime. As the weather was so hot, it was touch and go whether we would eat outside on the red wire table I had prepared.

I had worked hard the night before, to clean and tidy the rest of the area, and make sure the twinkly lights looked good. There is a great deal more work needed on this space, but for now, I made it look the best I could. More money is needed to do it faster!

The verandah looked pretty and twinkly too.

 I commandeered an old screen to try to make some privacy from the street. It will stay out there until it rots now. Only cost me $10 on Facebook Marketplace, so I will get rid of it when the lattice goes up and/or when it rots and looks foul.

The barbeque, which I had also bought cheaply on the marketplace did not light easily, so we gave it a miss, and I ended up frying the sausages and marinated chicken using pans in the kitchen!

We had a good enough time. Chaddy-Waddy had even been inside! He bailed up the kitties in my bedroom at one stage, but overall was a very well behaved doggy.

I'm going to grow my hair longer this year.

Overall, it was quiet but pleasant. Definitely had to be inside as the heat outside was so fierce - 33 C.

They went home about 1.30 pm, as lunchtime wine and beer made everyone tired, as did full stomachs. Nigel said he enjoyed himself.

I definitely want to entertain more. It's just that I would love to remodel the house to make it all so much easier.

Boxing Day was spent at Anne's. It was a lovely, relaxing day.

Wet garden shots today

Very wet weather today (product of northern cyclone) so I took some photos. I like the fence a dark colour. Paint job ahead!

So much work to be done out the back here. But progress is being made, very slowly.

Moved hula girl + updates

Moved the caliandra to the back fence. It has been in the ground for some weeks now, with no apparent growth or development. It hasn't died either, which is good.

26 April, 2019: Looking for foliant but no bigger, and no branching out.

22 Dec 2019 - there seems to be some growth going on. I love the vibrant green new shoots on it. Who knows what shape she will be eventually?

Moved two bougs

Moved them from the garden beds (around the flame tree, and where there was once lavender growing) and put them along the fence. It appears they have taken, about which I am pleased. There are new tiny leaves on them, so hopefully they will grow big over the fence.

I'm not sure which colour is which yet. One is purple, the other is temple fire.

Will block that hole in the foliage facing the corner. Not sure what colour this one is.

 

14 Jan 2019 - It has taken and grown!!

14 Feb 2019: Looking green and growing taller, but no flower as yet.

27 Feb 2019 - Looks like it's the orangey-brown boug. This must be the temple fire colour. 

It has just started flowering!

Want this one to block the hole in the foliage facing the Meier's place. This is a pinky-purple colour, very close to the red boug already there.

14 Jan 2019: Still small, but has taken and is growing! Great! It's a lovely reddy-burnished orange, which goes to a pretty purple colour. It's Bougy Tango.

7 Dec 2019 - Beautiful- 

27 Feb 2019: Seems to be doing quite well - I love the two pinky-red colours together there.

15 July, 2019 - the lovely red boug which has been there a long time, lost it's leaves for a bit, and is now shooting again. The colour is beautiful. It has a small flower, and espalliers itself along the side fence.
