Lettuce gift

 Bernie, across the road, who is 80 now, brought over 2 lettuce plants. They had bought 4, but can only eat 2 when they come up, so gave me the other 2.

I have planted them (5 Oct) in one of the beds, and to date (7 Oct) they appear to be growing. I have also fed them a good drink of potash, as I did all the other plants in the garden.

Back garden changes

 Still no luck growing the grass. The weeds are growing in though, of course. I did spread lawn seed around, and even put the sprinkler on, but all I ended up with is a muddy soggy back area! The birds probably ate the seed!
