Jacobean Lily (Sprekelia formosissima) or Aztec Lily or Mexican Fire Lily - first flower!

Also known as the St James Lily, it is said to resemble the insignia of the ‘Knight of St James’.

Just flowered in the garden this morning. Jeanette Meiers gave me these - I adore the colour! I hope they spread lots.

They are related to hippeastrum species. Care details HERE. Apparently they can be left for years in the same place, so that's what I will do - maybe move some to the side front garden.

Update: Second flower 27 Oct 2017:

Feels like so much longer ago than a week since the first flower came up!
