I want something like this at both ends of the garden.

This is the tall carport gate I want, like.

Next door's poinciana

Well, not exactly, but the beautiful poinciana next door has spread so much that it is reaching out towards my fence - almost over it!
And underneath my creeper galpinii has grown up, so they look like they will meet. It's lovely. The two reds.

Finally, I have some signs of a nice 'fall' from the bird bath. It needs to be kept moist and that's a challenge in this heat - 35C today alone.

Chookies love their watermelon

On these hot days, I like to give the girls some melon, to help them cool off a bit. They love it, and eat it right down to the rind. Bottoms up, darlings!

This was last Dec 2017 - how the girls get shade.

Gold fire ixora

Thought I would try a yellow one for a change. The other colours seem to be stronger than the Malay Pink, so we'll see how it goes, provided the chooks leave it alone.

It's still only VERY small!

New flowers on it - hope that means it will live.

New leopard lily and transplanted lilies

Bought these great leopard lilies this morning from Maree, at the market. They are also called 'blackberry lilies'.

And moved the white spider lilies from their pot into the ground. Hope they take grow in the semi-shade of the large hibiscus there.

Also planted the walking irises in the ground - hope they take off and don't get dug out by the chookas!

Garden shots today and moved the veggie plots

I managed to mow the front lawn in amongst the rain showers, so it looks neat for another week. altogether though, it is somewhat dry lately - we do need more rain. I spread some lime around to encourage the lawn to take up any organic material nutrients (that's the white patches in the photos).

had been to the local markets in the morning and spent about $100 on plants!! New azaleas, a bromeliad or two (in anticipation of the shade and 'rainforest look' I want to create) and other bits and bobs. All cheap.

I moved the vegie planters around - gave the chooks a treat - they are happy digging and spreading what is left of the soil there.

I'm going to grow palms and other stuff in there, I think. As a barrier, create a 'yard' space, in front of the future carport. With large rainforesty, tropical things growing at the back, to make shade for gingers and broms in the understory in front. Look how brown is the grass.

The front looks neat - I am just satisfyingly feeling like I am getting somewhere with this garden now. I still have plants to put in the garden beds, it's just the chooks - I am fearful of them digging and uprooting anything new!

The photos don't really show the lovely colours - all the pinks and crimsons. They do show the dryness and browning off though!

I've had Teeny for a year!

Tiina is one! She was born in Dec 2016, and came to live with me in Jan 2017.

I've had her for a year. She's still so cute!

Here she is when she was first with me - she adapted quickly to her new home.

I added another 'i' to her name, just to be different. 'Tiina'.

New fake bamboo trees

From The Reject Shop at Springfield. $60 a piece, but as I said to Mum, when mixed in with other trees, they will look great.

They look pretty good on the verandah. Not sure whether this will be their permanent home though. I just wish the builders would contact me so I can get on with completely Stage 1 of the house reno.
