Planted the new hibiscus

Bought cheaply at Salvos - 'snow-queen hibiscus'. I just love the variegated leaf and the red flower. I have a smaller version on one side of the gate. I want it to grow and cover up that edge of the fence where it joins next-door's. That's an awkward are which would look better blocked in and not visible from the road. Good thing is I can shape the hibiscus to suit, too.

I moved the jasminum nitidum to the gate-side of the area there. I noticed a purple lantana growing there too, and decided to let it stay. I'll limit it's growth and maybe get it to spread in some lower areas, at least to cover the dirt.

Planted more salvias

Bought them cheaply at the Salvos, and considering we had rain last night, thought I would make the most of softer soil. However, only the top cm was moist, beneath - not so much. With a bit of water, they should spread.

Planted the alternantheras

After the rain we had last night, I decided to plant some of the small plants I had waiting for such an occasion.

The alternantheras (one from Kerry, one from the Salvos) went in the front garden. Hopefully they will hold some moisture and spread there in the gaps between the brunsfelsia, palm and smaller cigar plant.

Another stinking hot day, 37C and so stuffy inside the house. It was predicted that we would get a few drops today, and we did last night - a few dribbles with a very quick 5 minute deluge this afternoon, at around 1.45pm.

It was, of course, very welcome. I went for a walk in the garden and got soaked, but oh how lovely it was to feel rain on my skin. So cooling both on one's body and the temps were lowered a bit.

I need to do something about my gutters, and saving the water from the roof.

Let's see how fast the grass greens up, so that it looks better than this!

After which Mum and I went to Brothers for a drink and something to eat. Just a quick visit - it was boring.

Frangi progress, garden wide

I have been making a point of watering these trees this year, since the water table must be depleted due to drought. I think it's made a difference in their flowering so far.

John's garden -

Back garden - I'm glad this one is a red one. There are a few others planted but as yet of unknown colour (not yet flowered). I have a yellow and white waiting to be planted but am not sure quite where to plant it yet.
